Free Lesson Videos, Zoom Games, and Training on Using Digital Technologies for Faith Formation

By Amy Shreve

Over the last several weeks the church world (along with the rest of the world) has been scrambling to understand how we do what we are called to do in a socially distanced, increasingly online world. Don’t worry. You don’t have to do it all by yourself. There are a lot of great tools to help you continue teaching and forming your students spiritually. Here are three that can help right away!

  1. Free Video Lessons from Amplify – The United Methodist Publishing House’s media subscription platform (Amplify Media) has stepped up to the plate with free stuff. For a limited time, Amplify has made several resources free and accessible for churches to participate in a church-wide or group study and children’s content to keep them engaged in the Bible. Though there is not youth-specific content, studies like “The Way” by Adam Hamilton that take you on a video tour of important holy land sites can translate very well to the youth ministry world. Consider sending youth a link to the video to watch and then log on afterwards to discuss it together!
  2. Zoom Games – Who knew that so much of our ministry would involve zoom!? Man of us have discovered that in the video conferenced version of youth ministry a lot of our standard games don’t translate well. Don’t worry. Here is a great list of zoom games you can use to spice up your next youth group video conference!
  3. Training on Using Digital Technologies for Faith Formation – Last but not least, you are likely getting to the point where you wish you had a little more training on how to use digital technology for faith formation. There was a great webinar that you’ve already missed, but don’t worry! You can watch the webinar by Scott Hughes of Discipleship Ministries and get the training you need!

God keeps calling me into ministry with the church. After graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University with a useful Pre-Theology degree, I moved to Champaign, Illinois to work as a church youth director. Over 12 years, I have had the pleasure to work for three churches facilitating youth and family ministries and now serve the Illinois Great Rivers Conference supporting college ministry while pursing a Master’s in Nonprofit Administration. I am married to a professor and we have two kids. I enjoy camping, podcasts, and making friends.
