Lessons I Learned from the Young Leaders Summit in Ndola, Zambia

By Agbor Bertile

I attended the 2015 YLS in Ndola Zambia with the theme "young leaders exploiting their potentials for effective leadership." The Summit had a great impact in my life and that of young people in the Cameroon mission area.

On returning home I shared with other young people some of the lessons I learned at the Summit.

Even though we are separated by geographical divisions, we can stay connected as a local church that is part of the global church.

Young people of today are the church of tomorrow. The church of tomorrow depends on how we take care of our young people today. As young people, we have potentials which the church needs to grow and therefore we must put these potentials to work. Effective communication has a great role to play if we are to be leaders of tomorrow.

Even though we are separated by geographical divisions, we can stay connected as a local church that is part of the global church. We can connect with other young people out of our mission area to know their successes as young people. In doing so, we can tackle our differences and implement good ministries that are working in other places.

The Summit helped me improve my public speaking skills by helping me become bold and confident when sharing ideas with other young people. I was also able to learn about what it takes to organize conferences and help other young people fluently share their ideas.

Thanks to Young People’s Ministries of the UMC for this opportunity to grow as a leader in the church.
